Match Preview: Kidderminster Harriers (H)

It’s a break from league action for AFC Fylde this weekend as we take on Kidderminster Harriers in the FA Trophy third round at Mill Farm.

The Coasters are looking to end a run of three games without a win after claiming their last win on home soil against Gateshead in early November.

Kevin Phillips’ side were unfortunate to not pick up any points in last week’s double header after long trips to Hartlepool and Sutton United respectively saw some strong performances from Fylde without any points return.

This weekend however, Phillips’ men face National League side Kidderminster who currently sit fourth in the division below.

Opposition dugout: Phil Brown

The Kiddy are under the tenure of experienced manager Phil Brown who has managed for 25 years after making over 600 appearances as a player.

Brown started his coaching career as assistant manager under Sam Allardyce at Blackpool. His first full-time senior position was at Derby County in 2005 before moving onto Hull City where he later became Manager in 2007.

Brown achieved some brilliant success with the Tigers, firstly leading them to safety before leading them to the Premier League for the first time in their 104-year history.

After further stints with Preston North End and Southend United, Brown was appointed Head Coach of Indian Super League side Pune City which later became Hyderabad FC.

After an extra stint at Southend and then Barrow, Brown was appointed manager of Kidderminster who sat bottom of the National League. Despite winning six of his opening eight matches, Brown couldn’t stop the Harriers from being relegated before he extended his contract at Aggborough.

One to watch: Amari Morgan-Smith:

‘Morgs’ has racked up a double century of appearances for Harriers across three spells, the most of which has come since his return in 2020. 

Having first featured on loan in DY10 a decade prior, this vastly experienced striker has bagged many memorable moments and goals in red, not least an iconic goal in the FA Cup win over Reading in 2022. 

A former Cheltenham, Luton, and York City man, Morgan-Smith netted nine times last season and got off to the perfect start in 2024-25, notching at Darlington having been named team Captain less than 24 hours prior.
