Watch as Dean Gaffney reveals very awkward meeting with I’m A Celeb’s Maura after she didn’t recognise him as soap star
EASTENDERS star Dean Gaffney has revealed an awkward encounter between him and I’m A Celeb star Maura Higgins.
The iconic soap star is best known for his days on the BBC soap, where he played Robbie Jackson for many years.
Outside of his time on EastEnders, Dean also enjoyed his own stint in the Australian jungle when he took part in the ITV show in 2006, finishing in fifth place.
Speaking on I’m A Celeb! Unpacked last night (Tues 3 Dec), Dean revealed he had previously met Maura Higgins at a showbiz event but their first meeting didn’t go so smoothly.
He told host Joel Dommett: “There was a funny story where I was at the Pride of Britain awards.
“I was sat with Joey Essex and Maura came over and she said to Joey, ‘oh, is that your dad?'”
The soap star then joked: “I know I’ve got grey hair but come on!”
The anecdote from Dean comes as Maura continues her stint in the jungle, where she’s teased viewers as she gives clues about her love life.
The Love Island star has opened up about her ‘mystery man’ but refused to name him whilst in the jungle, with many sure she’s referring to TOWIE star Pete Wicks.
Pete, who is currently on Strictly Come Dancing, and Maura were pictures on dates together over the summer including some photographs with them locking lips.
Speaking on I’m A Celeb, Maura told her fellow camp mates she was “missing him”.
Refusing to name the mystery love interest, she did coyly admit that he is someone recognisable.
As the conversation unfolded, Maura confessed she has been missing him during her time in the jungle.
She admitted: “It does [feel different this time], but then is it because we’ve known each other for a long time?”
With a smile, she added: “He’s not an a**hole.”
