Vanderpump Rules' Lala Kent Cosmetically Enhances Her 3-Year-Old's Photos: 'Go Ahead & Judge'
Lala Kent is speaking out about the way she edits her family photos, and she is daring the mom shamers to come after her. After posting pictures that had followers asking why Kent’s 3-year-old’s front teeth were discolored, the Vanderpump Rules alum went to her Instagram Story to set the record straight.
“I’m usually the type to not read/ignore comments,” she wrote over a closeup of her daughter Ocean, who she shares with ex-fiancé Randall Emmett. “But we are from Utah honey … We are teeth people!”
(Side note: If you’re from elsewhere and wondering what Utah has to do with this, the state is reportedly home to some of the whitest teeth in the country.)
And so she said she could not let the comments like “Is that bottle rot on the front of the older one’s teeth?” slide. According to Kent, Ocean “has a fond relationship with her wild side” and faceplanted off her bike. There is “trauma” to the root of her two front teeth, she explained, hence the discoloration.
“Yes, I’m the mom who usually edits this,” Kent said, acknowledging that she usually whitens Ocean’s teeth in photos. “Go ahead and judge.”
And, unfortunately, we have no doubt followers will indeed judge Kent. The mom shamers will likely come out in full force on her next post, calling her a bad mom for the edits.
… And they might have some reasonable points. As one TikTok user pointed out, whitening Ocean’s teeth is just confirming to the little girl that she doesn’t fit her mom’s beauty standards. They also wondered if these edited photos get posted around the house. “Imagine Ocean looking at her photo and then looking in the mirror and she’ll be like, ‘That’s not how I look.’ That’s just sad.”
“I would feel hurt if I looked back at old pictures from childhood and my mom edited out my ‘imperfections,'” one person replied.
Kent’s actions with Ocean aren’t the only ones that got questioned this year. Followers lost their minds after the Bravo star welcomed her second daughter and named her Sosa. As in … Alejandro “Alex” Sosa, the fictional drug lord from Scarface? As in … slang for cocaine? As in … rapper Chief Keef’s nickname?
“THEM B****** LOVE SOSA,” one follower commented, referencing a line from the rapper’s song, “Love Sosa.” Another person responded, “First thing that came to my mind!”
We said it before, and we’ll say it again: Immediately thinking of a well-known character, person, or song (… or drug) is reasonable. What’s not reasonable is the way people continued to belittle Kent and her infant.
“Sosa??? Is she in the Colombian cartel??? Omggg ????????????????” “Baby that’s a ❄️ reference change the name” “Oh no! Take a page out of kylie Jenner’s book … it’s not too late to change the name! This is awful”
Kent seemingly ignored these comments (as she should!). But once Sosa starts teething, all bets are off.
