Signing Tyler Dibling won’t be easy for Spurs – Former scout explains why
Former Spurs scout Mick Brown has revealed that the North London club will have to battle a whole host of Premier League clubs if they wish to land an 18-year-old Tyler Dibling.
Tyler Dibling is turning a lot of heads across Premier League
Southampton’s Tyler Dibling has not looked back since breaking into the Saints starting eleven earlier this season, with his reputation growing with each game.
The youngster has been the sole bright spark in what has been a poor campaign for Russel Martin’s men so far.
It was reported by GiveMeSport back in September that the youngster’s creativity and inventiveness had caught the eye of Tottenham and other clubs in the Premier League.
However, Football Transfers revealed earlier this month that it was Aston Villa who had moved into pole position to land the Southampton academy graduate, having already spoken to the player’s representatives regarding a move to Villa Park.
Mick Brown issues warning to Spurs about Tyler Dibling
Mick Brown has now revealed that his sources have told him that almost every single Premier League club is keeping an eye on Dibling’s development at St Mary’s.
He suggested that there would be a major scramble for the England Under-21 international’s signature should Southampton go down.
Brown told Football Insider about the winger: “He’s attracting a lot of interest. Nearly every club in the Premier League have been keeping an eye on his performances this season because he’s a very talented young player.
“They’re assessing just how good they think he is, and many of them have had scouts watching him. After that game against Liverpool, I’m told they like what they see.
“If Southampton go down, chances are they’ll have to sell some players. The way the financial rules are at the moment, relegation can be very costly. I think we saw that with Leeds and Leicester last year.
“With Dibling attracting interest, he may well be one they look to cash in on if a good offer arrives. Don’t get me wrong, they’ll be keen to keep him at the club, he’s a product of their academy and a very good one at that. But with interest building, relegation from the Premier League might force them to sell.”
Russel Martin’s warning about Dibling
However, Russel Martin issued a hands-off warning to clubs regarding Dibling a couple of weeks ago, insisting that he is not concerned about the fact that the youngster is on the radars of several top sides.
He pointed out that the Saints have turned down bids for the player in the past and asserted that they will continue doing the same in January.
Martin said (via Birmingham World): “When you’re 18 and you play in the Premier League to the level he’s played at, I think every club in the world probably looks at you. He’s ours.
“The club has turned down bids for him since I’ve been here. The speculation is nothing for him or for me. We are in a strong position. I’m sure we will look at securing that and strengthening that even more because if he carries on doing what he’s doing then he will deserve that.”
