Hugo Lloris reveals what he learned about Ange Postecoglou in just 6 months
Hugo Lloris calls on Tottenham fans to give Ange Postecoglou time and explains why he is optimistic about the direction the club is now headed.
Ange Postecoglou fighting an uphill battle
Postecoglou walked into Tottenham at a tumultuous time, with the club coming off an eighth-place finish in the 2022-23 season and losing their record goalscorer Harry Kane.
However, despite overseeing a change in the style of play and guiding the club to a respectable fifth-place finish last term, the Australian has had to deal with more than his fair share of doubters.
Perhaps that is down to the fact that his managerial journey is unconventional and he has not managed at the highest level of the game, with critics thus jumping at the chance to write him off.
Hugo Lloris insists Ange Postecoglou is the right man for the job
Lloris spent six months working with Postecoglou before leaving Tottenham at the start of this year, and he admits he was impressed by the 59-year-old’s football vision.
The former Tottenham captain called on supporters to ride through difficult moments and show faith in the project.
Lloris told The Independent: “I spent six months in the changing room, I was not even involved but I could enjoy the football vision of Ange and I still believe and I am still convinced you have to stick with this way and trust the process.
“The team and club is in a good position, they have talented players, different ages, different experiences but I still believe they can achieve something and win something.
“Part of the football world today, you have to deal with this expectation and I just hope and you don’t want to see the team affected by these things or the club affected.
“They have to be strong and stay together and make (as) one in the club. And also I would say the fans need to trust the process because what we see, we enjoy.
“That is the football we want to see them playing and it’s not because of one bad result or two bad results that we need to question everything. You have to look about medium to long-term because I believe they can do it.”
Lloris is desperate to see Tottenham succeed
The former Spurs number one confessed that the club will always have a special place in his heart and that he is desperate to see them win silverware.
Despite failing to lift a trophy during his time at N17, the Frenchman admitted that he is proud of the part he played in the club’s evolution.
He added: “I gave 12 years of my career to the club and I am proud of it, you know? And today I just support the club, I love the club and I just want to wish them and see them succeed.
“I hope it will come but I am also proud because I was part of the group of players that make the club evolve. When I signed for the club and when I left, it was a totally different club.
“Step by step we become even more competitive and put the club in a better position. I think today the club has everything and is strong enough to succeed.”
