Bargain shop slashes price of Cadbury selection box to just £1.20 – it’s the cheapest around and not Aldi or Lidl
A BARGAIN retailer has slashed the price of Cadbury selection boxes to just £1.20 – making it the cheapest deal you can get right now.
Cadbury selection boxes are a go-to present at Christmas time, containing all the nation’s favourite chocolate bars.
So customers were delighted when they spotted a bargain offer in B&M – all 125g medium Christmas Santa boxes down to £1.20 from £2.
The discount marks a whopping 40% reduction, making it the cheapest around currently.
One shopper took to the Food Finds UK Official Facebook Group to spread the excitement and posted a photo of the bargain in the store.
It attracted over 100 likes and 71 comments, with one person commenting: “Amazing! I need these to finish off.”
Another wrote: “One of the things I need to get tomorrow!”
While a third said: “I got eight lol.”
However, others were displeased, noticing how the boxes have shrunk to a smaller size over the years.
One person said the boxes were a “rip-off”.
While someone said: “Selection boxes are pathetic now, not even full-size bars. I miss the 90s.”
While it is true chocolates are shrinking, it is still cheaper to buy the £1.20 selection box than it would be to buy its contents separately.
The medium Christmas Santa selection boxes contain a Freddo, a Dairy Milk Little Bar, Dairy Milk chocolate buttons, a Wispa, a Crunchie and a Fudge.
Freddos, Dairy Milk Little Bars and chocolate buttons all cost approximately 30p each in B&M.
And a Wispa, Crunchie and Fudge, which can be bought in £1.65 packs of four, cost about 40p each.
Overall, the contents of the box amount to £2.10 – which is a good place to start when working out if you’re getting the right deal.
In the case of B&M’s £1.20 discount, you’re getting great bang for your buck – but this is not the case with other retailers.
On Ocado, the selection box is selling for over double the price at £2.50 – which is also 40p more than what it’s worth.
In Sainsbury’s, it’s even pricier at £2.75, unless you have a Nectar Card which knocks it down to a more reasonable £1.75.
Tesco is also listing the calendar for £2.50 but slightly cheaper with a Club Card for £1.70.
For a similar price, you can get it for £1.69 in Aldi, or £1.50 in Asda.
The second best offer to B&M is in Iceland, where you can buy one for £2.50 and get one free.
This is great if you need more than one, as each calendar will come to £1.25 – just 5p more expensive than B&M.
But don’t go for the offer and spend on two boxes for the sake of it when you can spend less elsewhere.
The Iceland deal runs only until December 2, so bear in mind it won’t be there next week.
Remember that prices are constantly changing – especially when it comes to festive essentials like these in the run-up to Christmas.
Shops will be battling to offer the best deals so keep an eye on their websites and apps to keep up to date.
A good way of doing this is by using the comparison site Trolley, which can provide an overview of all the different prices in different stores.
You should keep in mind that prices may vary between stores and locations.
You can find your local supermarket or store by going to the retailer’s website and using their Store Locator tool.
It’s sometimes better to shop in person to spot last-minute reductions which won’t be advertised online.
How to save money on Christmas shopping
Consumer reporter Sam Walker reveals how you can save money on your Christmas shopping.
Limit the amount of presents – buying presents for all your family and friends can cost a bomb.
Instead, why not organise a Secret Santa between your inner circles so you’re not having to buy multiple presents.
Plan ahead – if you’ve got the stamina and budget, it’s worth buying your Christmas presents for the following year in the January sales.
Make sure you shop around for the best deals by using price comparison sites so you’re not forking out more than you should though.
Buy in Boxing Day sales – some retailers start their main Christmas sales early so you can actually snap up a bargain before December 25.
Delivery may cost you a bit more, but it can be worth it if the savings are decent.
Shop via outlet stores – you can save loads of money shopping via outlet stores like Amazon Warehouse or Office Offcuts.
They work by selling returned or slightly damaged products at a discounted rate, but usually any wear and tear is minor.
What other deals are on selection boxes this year?
A popular product similar to the Cadbury box is the Twix and Friends Christmas Selection.
It contains a classic Twix duo bar, two special-edition Twix bars, M&Ms and Milky Way Magic Stars.
It’s slightly pricier than Dairy Milk – the cheapest place to buy it is currently Asda at £2, otherwise it is £2.75 in most other stores.
A Cadbury Christmas Stocking Selection Box is also cheapest in Asda, costing a steeper £2.50, but containing six full-sized chocolate bars.
In comparison, it is £3.50 on Ocado.
Or if you’re looking for some classic Celebrations to have, share or gift this year, they’re currently cheapest in Aldi for £2.08.
The next cheapest place to buy them is Savers for £2.49, or Asda for £2.50.
