Brennan Johnson makes confident trophy claim Spurs fans will love
The last trophy Spurs won was approaching 17 years ago, but Brennan Johnson believes this is the season that the wait will come to an end.
Spurs still have everything to play for
After knocking Manchester City out of the Carabao Cup, Tottenham Hotspur remain in four competitions this season.
Spurs will be looking to solidify their chances of reaching the Europa League knockout phase with a result against AS Roma. They have the Carabao Cup quarter-final against Manchester United in December and have yet to begin their FA Cup campaign.
Tottenham are sitting in 6th in the Premier League table but could have been far closer to league leaders Liverpool, if not for some underwhelming recent performances against Crystal Palace and Ipswich.
Brennan Johnson is certain that a trophy is achievable for Spurs
Brennan Johnson is adamant that Tottenham will end their wait for a trophy this season.
Responding to a question about Ange Postecoglou’s history of always winning a trophy in his second season and what Spurs can achieve this year, Johnson said (Optus Sport): “I think definitely a trophy for sure. I’m really confident about that.
“I think right now in the Premier League we’re a bit inconsistent but we want to turn that into positive results every week.
“We’re in all the cups so I think there are different avenues where we can do that. In terms of performances…when we play our best we’ve shown that there’s not many people that can beat us.”
All Tottenham players should feel the same as Brennan Johnson
Unless you are Manchester City, there is a sense that if you aspire to win a trophy, it is an example of naivety and hubris. However, if Spurs are to make the jump to being a successful team, each player should be looking to adopt the confidence and belief that Johnson has shown.
Tottenham still have several excellent teams they have to face across all competitions, but they will not succeed if they doubt their ability to be champions. The constant pursuit of improvement will be Spurs’ greatest boon and even if they drop out of some tournaments on the way, endlessly chasing their goal will surely see them reach it.
