Spurs forward says relationship with Ange Postecoglou has improved his game
Tottenham Hotspur players have bought into Postecoglou’s style and one star in particular appreciates how his management has led to personal growth.
Ange Postecoglou always gets the best from his players
Tottenham Hotspur are defined by their pressing and attacking returns. They are ranked 1st in the top five leagues for Pressing (PPDA) and have scored the most goals in the Premier League.
This has come even while Tottenham have suffered multiple injuries in attacking positions. It shows that more than individual brilliance or role suitability, Ange Postecoglou’s ability to develop his players and fill them with belief, earns results.
If the Tottenham squad remains committed to their approach, Spurs will likely find the consistency which has eluded them in the league, and their players may reach new personal heights.
Brennan Johnson on his relationship with Ange Postecoglou
Tottenham Hotspur’s top scorer, Brennan Johnson, has been speaking about his relationship with his manager. Speaking to Optus Sport, Johnson described his journey with Ange Postecoglou.
“I think when I first signed it was all quite rushed, it was right at the end of the window, so we didn’t get loads of time to talk before I came, but since I’ve been here it’s been a really positive relationship.
“I think there’s been times where I’m doing well and he keeps pushing me to do more. He never really thinks of the past, he always thinks about the next action. But also when things aren’t going well he’s very good.
“He gives a lot of praise for working hard, I think a lot of it can go under the radar, especially from outside. He’s good at making sure working hard for the team is rewarded.
“It’s little bits like that when the goals aren’t going in but you still feel like you’ve rewarded the team with your hard work.”
Ange Postecoglou puts emphasis players on working for each other
Johnson is not the first to infer the work the Spurs players do for one another. Dejan Kulusevski spoke about playing for your teammates as if they were your family. Dominic Solanke often works selflessly for the team rather than in an individualistic pursuit of goals.
When each player contributes this way, it becomes far more likely that the whole team will benefit by securing results, but also individuals will earn accolades as well.
