People are being left terrified by a new 5,000ft high attraction in China
Tourists in China are taking a leap of faith by climbing the country’s newest ‘Sky Ladder’ – or Tianti in Chinese.
Mount Qixing, in Zhangjiajie Nature Park, has begun offering thrill seekers a chance to climb the mountain in a unique way.
The ladder measures 551 long, between two cliffs towering 5,000 feet, according to CNN.
Climbers use a combination of footrests, cables and steel handrails to make their way along the rock face.
More than a thousand people make the journey each day to climb the mountain – resulting in a ‘people jam’ mid air on one occassion.
Social media users have gone wild over the experience, which has been shared online by some who completed it.
Tickets are only £63 and the climb is monitored by coaches and safety inspectors for the entirety of the adventure.
It hasn’t stopped those online from hesitating to make the journey and climb: ‘Just watching this makes my hands sweat,’ one user said.
Another added: ‘The real thing is not as scary as you think. In fact, it’s much scarier than you think.’
‘I don’t think my heart can take it,’ another added.
Similar attractions are available in the alps – most famously, the ‘Stairway to Heaven’, where a British climber died after falling 300ft from the ladder in 2023.
The unnamed 42-year-old was climbing the Dachstein Mountains, part of the Northern Limestone Alps, when he fell off the end of the ladder.
It has been referred to as Via-Ferrata, which is Italian for ‘iron way’, and many climbers call it the ‘stairway to heaven’.
