Shoppers devastated as M&S reveals it has axed festive Percy Pig treat from shelves
SHOPPERS are devastated after M&S revealed it has axed a Christmas fan-favourite.
The posh shop has confirmed that its iconic Percy Pig chocolate bombe is no more after customers noticed its absence from shelves.
The Percy Pig bombe, which is part of an entire M&S hot chocolate bombe range, was cherished for its warming winter take on the iconic Percy character.
So fans were gutted when the supermarket took to X to confirm it was being discontinued.
One user wrote: “Hi @marksandspencer are you bringing back the percy pig hot chocolate bombs? I’ve noticed Rudolph and a snowman instead this year.”
To which Sparks replied: “Hello – not for this year. We have our Rudolph and Snowman options instead.”
A quick search on X shows how others also loved the discontinued bombe.
One person wrote: “These are so yummy… and they have a surprise in them.”
The strawberry-flavoured milk chocolate bombe, which comes shaped as Percy Pig himself, packs secret marshmallows inside.
All you need to do is place the bombe in a mug and pour hot milk over it and watch the magic happen.
The smooth chocolate melts to create an iconic pink hot chocolate with melting marshmallows throughout.
When it was on shelves it cost just £2.50 to buy – making it the perfect low-cost stocking filler.
But customers aren’t completely losing out this year, as the Rudolph and Snowman chocolate bombes cost even less, at £2.
Both characters have the same type of bombe inside, made from smooth milk chocolate and filled with marshmallows.
That means if you’re super disappointed there’s always other options to try.
However M&S also suggested that the decision to axe the Percy Pigs bombe might not be forever.
An M&S spokesperson said: “At M&S Food we are constantly innovating and refreshing our range, reacting to trends, and customer feedback.
“Our festive drinks range is a hit every year with customers and this year our red-nosed Rudolph and Snowman Hot Chocolate Bombes filled the marshmallows are both flying off the shelves.
“Although the on Percy Pig hot chocolate bombe is not currently available, we always listen to customer feedback when reviewing future ranges.”
To keep an eye on M&S product launches you can check the store website, Ocado, or the M&S app.
By searching for products on the website, you can enter your location to see if its available in a store near you.
Products are constantly changing – and prices can vary depending on which store you are visiting.
For this reason you should always remember to compare prices before buying, which can be made easy with comparison sites such as Trolley.
Many supermarkets have their own brand chocolate bombes, such as the Sainsburys Christmas chocolate bomb, which costs £1.50.
Meanwhile, Waitrose‘s Buttermilk vegan bombe is a third of the price, at just 50p.
The Terry’s Chocolate Orange hot chocolate bombe is also a fan-favourite this year.
It costs £1.75 in Poundland, but is 25p cheaper in Asda for just £1.50.
That’s 25% off compared to an M&S hot chocolate bomb – plus, you get an exciting chocolate orange flavour.
How to save money on Christmas shopping
Consumer reporter Sam Walker reveals how you can save money on your Christmas shopping.
Limit the amount of presents – buying presents for all your family and friends can cost a bomb.
Instead, why not organise a Secret Santa between your inner circles so you’re not having to buy multiple presents.
Plan ahead – if you’ve got the stamina and budget, it’s worth buying your Christmas presents for the following year in the January sales.
Make sure you shop around for the best deals by using price comparison sites so you’re not forking out more than you should though.
Buy in Boxing Day sales – some retailers start their main Christmas sales early so you can actually snap up a bargain before December 25.
Delivery may cost you a bit more, but it can be worth it if the savings are decent.
Shop via outlet stores – you can save loads of money shopping via outlet stores like Amazon Warehouse or Office Offcuts.
They work by selling returned or slightly damaged products at a discounted rate, but usually any wear and tear is minor.
What else is new at M&S this Christmas?
Shoppers tend to splash out a little more for M&S goodies at Christmas time to mark the occasion.
The Sun tried all 450 new items in the M&S huge Christmas range, including a turkey feast lasagne and hot honey brie.
We rated the Xmas dinner dip the top of our list this year – it features bacon bits, turkey, cranberry and even stuffing and is delicious to eat with bread or crisps.
For drinks, the original snow globe gin liqueur is back on shelves this year after it was slashed from last year’s range.
There is also a new white mulled wine for £6 which has been popular so far.
Shoppers can also buy 75cl bottles of cocktail drinks on sale at the moment for just £5.50, which come in flavours Christmas Cosmo, Christmas Colada and Christmas on the Beach.
In previous years M&S have had to install an alcohol buying limit because of the massive demand.
M&S has also gone big on its Christmas ads this year, producing an entire six episode series featuring beloved comedian and actress Dawn French.
The final episode is set to come out on December 26, titled “New Year’s Eve”.
