NYC Public Schools education hiring event: How to sign up
NEW YORK (PIX11) – There’s an early holiday present for those looking to work in education.
NYC Public Schools is hosting a hiring event for substitute paraprofessionals on Dec. 5 but those interested need to act quickly. Prospective applicants must complete an online survey by Thursday to be invited to the event.
Those interested in becoming a substitute paraprofessional should have at least a high school diploma or GED, proficiency in reading and writing in English, and authorization to work in the United States.
The pay rate for the position is about $176 per school day and would require sub-paras to assist teachers with class work and help with the daily care of students with special needs.
After completing the online survey, prospective applicants will need to respond to a confirmation email by Friday to receive an individualized invitation. The hiring event is by appointment only and those who try to arrive without an invitation will not be accepted.
The hiring event comes after a recent UFT survey found more than 1,550 paraprofessional vacancies across 474 schools. The survey also found that almost 9,000 special education students are not receiving one or more of their mandated services.
