MLB Insider Provides Timeline Of Red Sox, Other Teams’ Juan Soto Offers
The Boston Red Sox reportedly were one of four teams to submit offers to Juan Soto, but a decision might not be made soon.
It was tradition for marquee free agents to sign with clubs on the week of Thanksgiving. Blake Snell reportedly made his decision Tuesday. However, fellow Scott Boras client Soto reportedly might make his free-agency decision around winter meetings on Dec. 9.
That’s why the offers submitted this week reportedly were “preliminary” offers as Soto and his team continue to gauge the interest of the Red Sox, the New York clubs, Toronto Blue Jays and Los Angeles Dodgers.
“The offers were expected to separate serious suitors from wishful thinkers, with perhaps a second, more serious round to follow next week,” The Athletic’s Brendan Kuty reported Tuesday. “Soto’s camp could be looking toward deciding on a team sometime around the Winter Meetings, which begin Dec. 9 in Dallas.”
The aforementioned teams already had meetings with Soto with the 26-year-old reportedly impressed by Boston’s pitch. Kuty added that it was unclear whether another round of meetings would be required. But as the top free-agent pitchers make decisions, clubs could be more urgent to secure Soto and round out the rest of their respective rosters.
