Manchester United will be looking to secure back-to-back wins in the Europa League as they welcome Bodo/Glimt to Old Trafford on Thursday.

And it should serve as a good opportunity for new manager Ruben Amorim to secure his first win since replacing Erik ten Hag.

The Portuguese coach, 39, started life at United with a 1-1 draw against promoted Ipswich Town on Sunday, a game after which he declared that they will have to “suffer” as he implements his new ideas.

“I know it is frustrating for the fans but we are changing so much in this moment with a lot of games,” he said. “We are going to suffer for a long period. We will try to win games but this will take time.”

There was no magic wand at Portman Road on Sunday with United’s xG down at 0.90, their third lowest of the season. Ipswich’s was 1.75, their highest of the season.

But you wouldn’t have thought Manchester United would suffer too much against the visiting Norwegians.

The Red Devils have lost just one of their last 26 Europa League matches at Old Trafford, and have now gone five games unbeaten across all competitions.

Bodo/Glimt’s only previous meetings with English opponents came in the 2022-23 Europa League, losing 3-0 away and 1-0 at home to Arsenal.

The visitors aren’t in the best of form either having won only one of their last five games in all competitions.

However, they are capable of a big result having taken two big scalps in this season’s competition. They did impressed during a 2-1 away victory over Braga and claimed an historic win against Porto before drawing with Union SG of Belgium.

Just enough

This could be a little trickier than expected for Manchester United. They are under new leadership with a new philosophy and formation against a settled side closing in on the Norwegian Eliteserien title.

Bodo/Glimt are also pretty good on the road having gone unbeaten in their last five, keeping three clean sheets in the process. That could stifle a goal-shy United and lead to a low-scoring affair.

Tackles

Only six players have more tackles in this season’s Europa League than Bodo/Glimt midfielder Hakon Evjen (12). That’s double the number of tackles than any of his colleagues, with Philip Zinckernagel next with six.

He’s averaging a tackle every 28 minutes in the competition and should busy with the hosts expected to see the majority of the ball.
