Brett Goldstein Confirms Fan Theory That 'Ted Lasso' Was Inspired by 'The Wizard of Oz'
Brett Goldstein is confirming a major fan theory about Ted Lasso!
For years, fans have speculated that the Emmy-winning Apple TV+ comedy series was inspired by The Wizard of Oz, with nods like Ted Lasso (Jason Sudeikis) being from Kansas and often wearing red sneakers like Dorothy’s ruby slippers.
In a new interview, the 44-year-old actor, who starred as Roy Kent on the show and also served as a writer, confirmed that the show was indeed inspired by the 1939 iconic movie.
Keep reading to find out more…“Oh yeah, there’s loads and loads of The Wizard of Oz in Ted Lasso,” Brett told Entertainment Weekly. “The pinball machine is the one that’s always ‘Ted has to go home. There’s no place like home.’ And then, there’s no place like Richmond F.C. Yes, that’s all Wizard of Oz.”
Brett then went on to reveal which Ted Lasso characters were modeled after Wizard of Oz characters, saying that Roy was the Tin Man, Jason‘s Ted was Dorthy, Hannah Waddingham‘s Rebecca was the Lion, and Phil Dunster‘s Jamie was the Scarecrow.
“I’m sure this is going to cause a lot of trouble,” Brett jokingly added.
