Blue Envelope program coming to Saratoga County
BALLSTON SPA, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- The Saratoga County Sheriff's Office will begin participating in the Blue Envelope program, which aims to make routine traffic stops safer for drivers on the autism spectrum.
The program provides light blue envelopes that will contain the driver's important documents, including a photocopy of their driver's license, vehicle registration, and support person contact information. The envelope lets an officer know the driver has autism and provides instructions to help the officer adapt their approach.
It also gives the driver guidelines on what to expect.
Anyone in Saratoga County may request an envelope by emailing sheriff@saratogacountyny.gov and write Blue Envelope Program in the subject line. The envelopes are free.
