Comedian Rex Navarrete to perform live at BGC in December
MANILA, Philippines – It’s always a good time for stand-up comedy, great food, and cocktails!
One of stand-up comedy’s finest, Rex Navarrete, is bringing his signature humor to the stage of Brick Wall, Uptown Parade, BGC on December 11. Doors open at 7 pm, with laughter kicking off at 9 pm.
Brick Wall (formerly Wicked Dogs) aims to be Metro Manila’s newest stand-up comedy hotspot, patterning its interiors and ambiance after iconic New York City comedy clubs. Wicked Dogs has been regularly hosting stand-up comedy shows, in partnership with Comedy Manila.
Pre-event tickets cost P1,500 each, while door charge costs P2,000 per head.
He is also performing on December 7 at Century Park Hotel, Manila, and on December 14 at Teatrino, Promenade, Greenhills.
Considered a veteran in the stand-up comedy world, Navarrete is known for his timeless ability to connect across generations, making his humor relatable to all — from newer teenage fans to older generations.
In an exclusive Rappler interview in 2016, the Fil-Am comedian shares the secret of joke-telling as an independent stand-up comedian — he doesn’t expect everyone to fully grasp his humor.
When asked if he tailors his material for young audiences, Navarette explains that he caters to himself, emphasizing that it’s his voice and unique angle that are at the core of his comedy, whether through his culturally nuanced clever takes or his insightful commentary on life.
In the same interview, Navarrete shares his thoughts on how Filipino audiences differ from others saying: “We know how to get a laugh out of anything. Even in the worst of times, we will find a way to crack a smile.” He relates this to his upbringing, noting that it’s the same way he was raised.
Navarrete’s stand-up journey began in 1989 during his US college years when his Asian American Studies professor encouraged him to try his hand at performing, subsequently paving the way for Filipino-American comedians in a predominantly Western industry. – with reports by Zach Dayrit/Rappler.com
