Man attempts to cash fake cheque to pay court fine
In a case of fraud that apparently had its genesis in the widely circulated Electoral and Boundaries Commission list of registered voters, a man admitted using a Government of Barbados payable order with someone else’s identification information to get funds to pay off a court-imposed fine.
This was what Andre Ricardo Barrow told police after he had been caught trying to get groceries with a fake cheque from a supermarket.
Barrow, of Carmichael Land, St George, admitted guilt when he appeared in the No. 4A Supreme Court yesterday.
He pleaded guilty to the charge that with intent to defraud, he uttered a forged bill of exchange, on June 10, 2022, purporting to be a Government of Barbados payable order, to Lionel C Hill Supermarket, payable to Kevyn Callender for $889, knowing the same to be forged.
