More flooding ‘likely’ after Storm Bert leaves trail of damage across UK
The UK has been battered by Storm Bert and more flooding is likely over the next few days, according to the environment secretary.
Steve Reed chaired a meeting with the Environment Agency today to discuss plans to protect communities from further flood damage.
Flooding is still expected across 132 areas, while flooding is possible at another 137 locations. A danger to life warning is active in Northampton due to deep and fast flowing water.
A major incident was declared in Northamptonshire yesterday after the River Nene burst its banks, causing flooding along the waterways and the evacuation of the Billing Aquadrome holiday park for the fourth time this year.
Labour MP for Cardiff West, Alex Barros-Curtis, has accused the Met Office of ‘incompetence’ over its Storm Bert forecasting, saying its impact was underestimated.
