Second US Circuit Court of Appeals Rejects Ghislaine Maxwell’s Request To Have Her Denied Appeal Against Sex-Trafficking Conviction Reconsidered
While the world is changing, Donald J. Trump reelected in a landslide, war in Europe and the Middle east, a multitude of high-profile sex trafficking cases in the news… while the world has moved on, somewhere in Florida, disgraced British socialite – and convicted sex trafficker – Ghislaine Maxwell is half-forgotten, dreaming of liberty in a prison cell, convinced that she will be vindicated, if only people get to know the ‘real facts’.
But the news are not positive for her, as the courts seems repeatedly unmoved by her defense’s legal arguments.
Daily Mail reported:
“Ghislaine Maxwell’s bid to have her sex trafficking conviction appeal reconsidered has been rejected by a US court. The disgraced British socialite is currently serving a 20-year jail term at FCI Tallahassee for pimping girls for pedophile Jeffrey Epstein.”
Maxwell’s appeal against her conviction was rejected in September by judges at Manhattan’s Second US Circuit Court of Appeals.
The judges said that her sentence was ‘procedurally reasonable’.
Her defense lawyers challenged that decision, stating that they meant to take it to the US Supreme Court.
Now, the court refuses to change its ruling.
“But Maxwell has seen her request to judges on the second circuit in the southern district of New York for a ‘panel rehearing’ – requesting the court reconsider its decision – denied.”
In her trial, evidence was presented of her helping entice vulnerable teenagers to satisfy Epstein’s sick appetites.
Maxwell’s lawyers say she ‘should never have been prosecuted’ because of the ‘sweetheart deal’ given to Epstein in Florida and drafted more than 15 years ago.
“’Ms. Maxwell worked with Epstein to select young victims who were vulnerable and played a pivotal role in facilitating sexual abuse,’ the judge said.
Her appeal was rejected in September, with three judges – Jose Cabranes, Richard Wesley and Raymond Lohier Jr – ruling that she was not the subject of an unfair trial.”
The judges decided that the non-prosecution agreement drafted in Florida ‘does not bind’ the United States Attorney’s Office for SDNY.
Also dismissed were Maxwell’s claims that she did not have a fair trial.
Meanwhile, the former socialite is telling anyone who’ll listen ‘to ignore reports on the case’, promising that she would write a memoir with ‘the truth’.
“A source claimed that Maxwell, who was a close associate of Epstein for years, claimed ‘the documents in the news are all false or misinformation’ and ‘the truth will only come out when her book does.’ The insider said: ‘She’s bragging about how great it will be but it sounds like the same old lies she has told a thousand times. ‘She really thinks she hasn’t done anything wrong and that her charges will be dropped when people read it’.”
