Albany International preps for Thanksgiving travel
ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10)-- Albany International Airport is preparing for a busy holiday travel season with Thanksgiving just days away. The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) is projecting thousands to pass through the area starting Monday, and airport officials are urging travelers to plan ahead.
TSA officials said travelers flying out of Albany International Airport should arrive at least two hours before the scheduled departure time to allow enough time to park, complete bag checks, get through security, and find the correct departure gate. Officials said travelers with bags that don't need checking can often check in early online, cutting time.
Beyond ensuring travelers have the proper documents for a flight, like identification, boarding passes, and more, they should also ensure they haven't packed a prohibited item through TSA's website. With Albany International Airport in the middle of remodeling the main terminal, travelers should expect construction, traffic lane reductions, and closed vestibules.
Airport officials said being dropped off and picked up from the airport can eliminate the need and stress of finding parking. Anyone picking up a traveler at the airport should wait in the cell phone or observation lot on Albany Shaker Road until the person is curbside and ready to be picked up quickly.
