Pundit slams Tottenham for making ‘weird signing’ in the summer
Don Hutchison admits that he fails to understand what Ange Postecoglou and Tottenham were thinking when they made a transfer decision back in the summer.
Same old issues continue to haunt Tottenham attacker
A lack of composure in the final third has plagued Timo Werner for a long time and it is an issue which has continued to prove his undoing at Spurs.
The former Leipzig man often gets into great positions and offers a constant threat down the left, but his crossing and finishing remains a complete lottery, much to the frustration of a lot of fans.
With Wilson Odobert and Richarlison out with long-term injuries, Ange Postecoglou will have to continue turning to the German international now and again over the coming months, but Hutchinson is not convinced that Werner will turn a corner.
Don Hutchison blasts Tottenham’s decision
Hutchison insisted that Spurs had no reason to extend Werner’s loan spell in the summer after his underwhelming spell at North London in the second half of last season.
The pundit opined that Postecoglou would be better off giving minutes to Mikey Moore or other youngsters rather than turning to the former Chelsea man.
Hutchison told ESPN FC about Werner: “Just a weird signing. I mean, Tottenham knew what they were getting when they signed him on loan in the summer.
“I mean, what was the point? He didn’t do particularly well last season. They could have given that job to Mikey Moore or a young player coming through. I just didn’t see the point in the sign. And then when he plays, he doesn’t impress.”
Timo Werner silenced his doubters against Man City
At the very least, Timo Werner showed what he can do off the bench against Man City. The German winger had Kyle Walker on toast when he hit top speed, ghosted past the City full-back, and put a goal on a plate for Brennan Johnson. Hopefully, he gets the credit he deserves for that.
Tottenham have the option to sign Werner permanently for £8.5m next summer, but it seems extremely unlikely that the club would take that option.
However, it appears certain that the winger will remain at Spurs until the end of the season Alasdair Gold explained on his YouTube channel earlier this week that the Lilywhites do not have the option to cut short his loan and send him back to Leipzig in January. Spurs fans should thus get behind him for the next six months.
