Aldi shoppers go wild for dupe of M&S £10 Christmas must-have that’s 50% cheaper
ALDI shoppers have gone wild for a dupe of a Christmas must-have from M&S – and it’s 50% cheaper.
The beloved selection box is perfect for gifting during the festive season – but it usually comes at a cost.
The M&S Very Merry Munch Mix sells for £10[/caption] The Aldi Reindeer Munch Mix sells for £4.99[/caption]The £10 Very Merry Munch tin includes milk and white chocolate popcorn, salted and dark chocolate pretzels, milk chocolate peanuts, caramel almonds and green candy-coated peanuts.
It is advertised on the Ocado website as “perfect for movie nights”, with fans on Facebook saying it is “heaven”.
Aldi’s version, the Dairyfine Reindeer Munch Mix, scans for just £4.99.
It contains a mix of toffee coated popcorn, salted pretzels, roasted and caramelised peanuts and milk chocolate coated malt balls.
Another version of the festive selection box, the Dairyfine Snowman Munch Mix, contains marshmallow flavoured toffee popcorn, assorted fruit flavour jelly beans, white chocolate flavour candy, and milk chocolate coated raisins.
Shoppers went wild for the new treat after it was shared to the Snack News & Reviews Facebook page.
One said: “Wow! Buying the shelf if they actually have it in ours”.
Another joked: “I am on my way”.
A third simply typed: “Ooh yummy”.
Other users noted that Home Bargains also does its own version – the Santa Munch Mix.
In total, the post wracked up 196 likes and 254 comments.
It comes as shoppers also went nuts for Aldi’s dupe for Pringles – launched to celebrate the released of the Wicked movie.
The Snackrite crisps have the same shape, packaging and even flavours as Pringles.
However, the Aldi dupe is a fraction of the cost at just £1.49 a pack.
And, the budget supermarket has also launched two bizarre new Christmas-inspired hot sauces that have divided shoppers.
Brussels Sprouts Hot Sauce and Spiced Cranberry Hot Honey will be available from November 28 for £3.49.
One confused Facebook user wrote: “That is not how I think of Brussel Sprouts.”
Julie Ashfield, Managing Director of Buying at Aldi UK, says: “Our latest collaboration with Sauce Shop might be our most controversial yet.
“Love them or hate them, we’re confident this unique hot sauce will win over even the most sprout averse.”
My M&S Xmas highlights
The Sun’s consumer editor Lynsey Barber got an early taste of Marks and Spencer’s Christmas food line up which includes 450 new items.
Here are the highlights.
White Mulled Wine, £6, 11% – 5/10
An interesting twist, but I prefer my white wine cool and crisp, so not for me.
Turkey Feast dip, TBC, – 10/10
A mouthful of Christmas, top of my shopping list and I’ll be eating it all winter.
Turkey Feast lasagne, £10 750g – 8/10
Rich and festive, another dish that is spot on with the essential flavours of Christmas, but I’d need a small portion as it’s very creamy.
Hot Honey Brie Brulee £7, 288g – 8/10
A cheesy dream, with extra zing from the hot honey and a bit of crunch, a great combo of flavours and a winter warmer.
Halloumi in Blankets with Hot Honey, £5.50, 240g – 10/10
A surprise hit with soft and creamy centres. Possibly better than the originals.
