Man Utd 'preparing' £50m+ offer to agree deal for 'very talented' star - report
Manchester United are preparing an offer to sign one of Sporting Lisbon’s emerging talents, according to Portuguese publication A Bola.
The Red Devils recently played their first game under manager Ruben Amorim. They secured a 1-1 draw against Ipswich Town in the Premier League on the road.
Amad Diallo started as the right wing-back against the Tractor Boys and he made an instant impression with the assist for Marcus Rashford’s second-minute goal.
Despite this, Amorim could be eyeing a more reliable figure in the role. A Bola report that United are readying an offer to land Geovany Quenda from Sporting CP.
The Red Devils made initial contact back in October and they are now planning a bid of £50 million plus bonuses to recruit the highly-rated Portuguese teenager.
Amorim is keen on reuniting with the 17-year-old next summer.
Quenda has a £84m release clause in his contract, but Sporting CP are open to selling him for United’s proposal of £50m plus bonuses at the end of the season.
Quenda could be Amorim’s first major United signing
Amorim has made it clear that he won’t be signing any Sporting CP players this winter.
United are also unlikely to spend big during the next transfer window due to Profitability and Sustainability concerns. They could wait until the summer to make a huge outlay.
There is another stumbling block due to Brexit rules. Premier League clubs are not allowed to register Under-18 foreign players. Quenda will only return 18 at the end of April next year.
Despite this, the club could work on an advanced deal to sign Quenda in the summer.
The youngster is considered as one of the best young talents in Portugal. He made his breakthrough under Amorim earlier this season and has been exceptional as a right wing-back.
The ‘very talented‘ ace has four goal contributions from 19 appearances, but has also impressed with his quick dribbling, distribution, duel winning ability as well as the knack for making recoveries.
Amorim believes he has the traits to succeed in England. United’s hierarchy are bound to back the manager with a big-money swoop for Quenda. They could seek to finalise a deal this winter.
