We took home the wrong baby but didn’t find out until 5 years later when we did a DNA test
A WOMAN has revealed how her life was turned upside down after her husband accused her of cheating when he realised their daughter wasn’t biologically his.
But the woman, 29, insisted she has and would never cheat on her husband, who she’s been in a relationship with since meeting at University.
The couple were stunned when the results of the paternity test came back[/caption] The dad suspected his wife was cheating when he found out his daughter wasn’t biologically his[/caption]The mum, who is based in the US, took to Reddit, explaining she first thought the paternity test must’ve been faulty, “I never cheated, I never would cheat, and I don’t know why he took that stupid test because I would never, ever cheat,” she said.
But it soon became apparent that something much, much worse had happned.
It all started when the her husband started acting “cold and suspicious” seemingly out of nowhere.
He’d stay in his office late into the night and was even being distant with the couple’s five-year-old daughter.
That’s when he finally confessed to taking a paternity test after realising their daughter’s eyes are brown, but the mum’s and his are blue, which although is possible is very rare.
After being confronted by her husband, the woman decided to take her own test in a bid to prove her innocence.
“I told him again that I would never cheat and started talking about a list I made of tests I want done, but he told me that he didn’t want to hear it right now,” she wrote on Reddit.
After sharing the original post she then updated Reddit users after she took the necessary test
“I ended up making a list of plans, and tests I wanted to get done. My husband was (understandably) distrustful of me for a while, but he apologised for the way he acted (which I didn’t need) and said that he wouldn’t try to kick me out of our home.
“He did say, though, that if every test came back and I’d cheated, then he was going to ‘go scorched earth.'”
Both parents did a blood test and had booked appointment with a chimerism specialist coming up, which got cancelled when the results from the blood tests came back and they discovered their daughter is biologically neither of theirs.
“I don’t know how this happened, but a police officer came to our house and took our statements, and we’re suing the hospital where I gave birth,” the woman claimed.
“I don’t know what happened to my baby, and that is terrifying. I have my husband back, but my whole world was still upended, and I just wish he’d never taken that stupid test.
“I’ve been sleeping in my daughter’s room, and I’m so afraid that she’s going to be taken away from me, but at the same time I want to know where my biological daughter is, and if she’s okay. I pray to god she’s okay,” the woman added.
She explained she still hasn’t mentioned any of this to their five-year-old daughter to avoid a “big scandal”.
“I don’t want people who know us to look at her differently. She deserves better than that, she’s such a good kid, and she’s not some spectacle to be gawked at,” the mum wrote.
The mum said she she plans on looking for her daughter’s birth family, but admitted she has “no idea” what she’ll do if she actually finds them.
“I guess the best case scenario would be to get a bigger house and all live together, but I don’t know if we can afford that, or if they’d go for that, or even if we’ll be able to locate them, or if I’m just crazy. This whole situation is crazy,” she said.
The husband then updated the post with his perspective on the whirlwind situation.
He explained that he didn’t think the test would come back negative so was floored when he discovered he’s not his daughter’s biological dad.
“I tried to find evidence of an affair, and failed. I got another test. When that one was also negative, I snapped. If you’ve ever been cheated on, you know what it feels like. When my wife denied it, I got angrier. I just wanted her to leave,” he said.
He continued: “My kid is genuinely not biologically mine. I didn’t immediately consider that switched at birth was an option.”
How many babies are switched at birth in the UK?
It’s incredibly rare for new born babies to be switched at birth at NHS hospitals in the UK.
According to a Freedom of Information request. since 2016 there have only been three instances of this happening, two of which involved sets of twins being mixed up.
