Penticton, BC: For the third time this season, the Vernon Vipers held a lead over the Penticton Vees heading into the third period. Unfortunately, for the third time, they were unable to secure the win, falling 6-4 in a hard-fought battle at the South Okanagan Events Centre (SOEC).
The Vipers saw contributions from several players, with Will Schumacher recording a goal and an assist, while Luke Bibby added two helpers. Jordan Gudridge, Charlie Kresl, and Noah Grolnic also found the back of the net, highlighting a strong offensive effort. Goaltender Marko Bilic faced a barrage of shots, making 32 saves on 37 attempts.
Penticton’s Max Heise was a standout, leading the charge with a hat trick, while Ryden Evers added a goal and two assists. Ethan Buenaventura held steady in net, turning aside 20 of 24 shots.
Special teams played a significant role in the contest, with both teams converting once on three power-play opportunities. However, the Vees’ decisive edge came from a crucial shorthanded goal that swung the momentum in their favor.
The Vipers will have a chance to rebound on home ice Sunday afternoon when they host the Salmon Arm Silverbacks.
