Traffic diverted off I-270 north after crashes cause standstill
HILLIARD, Ohio (WCMH) -- Traffic on a major highway running through Hilliard ground to halt for around two hours after two separate crashes.
Ohio Department of Transportation cameras captured blurry photos of a large line of cars in the northbound lanes of I-270 past Roberts Road, while there was little traffic on the southbound side of the highway. A public information officer for Hilliard police confirmed to NBC4 that all lanes of I-270 heading north were shut down. Emergency crews diverted cars in the northbound lanes off the highway around 11 p.m.
Hilliard police said the first crash happened at 8:44 p.m. and involved three different cars, but they didn't receive any reports of serious injuries in the aftermath. The second crash at 8:54 p.m. happened in backed up traffic from the first crash, and also involved three vehicles.
The second crash resulted in one person being taken to the hospital, but Hilliard police did not have information on the victim's condition. They also did not have an estimate on when I-270's northbound lanes would reopen, as of 11:30 p.m.
