Ange Postecoglou says Tottenham results have not reflected performances
Ange Postecoglou has said in his press conference that Tottenham Hotspur are a better team than what their results indicate.
Tottenham have dominated their matches
Tottenham’s players are no strangers to having the ball at their feet. Ange Postecoglou has made it clear that he expects his side to control matches and this has resulted in his team having more possession in most of their games this season.
And Spurs have generally looked good on the ball, creating plenty of chances, which has meant they have scored more Premier League goals than any other team this season, while they are behind just Manchester City on expected goals.
However, Tottenham are 10th in the league table, below the likes of Fulham and Nottingham Forest, while Spurs are as close on points to Southampton, who are bottom of the league on four points, as they are to league leaders Liverpool.
Ange Postecoglou calls for consistency at Tottenham
Speaking in his press conference, Postecoglou believes the results his side are getting are not a fair reflection of how strong they are as a team.
He said: “It’s kind of mixed. We’re definitely a better side than some of our results show. You want to improve your standing within the game and our results certainly haven’t reflected that.
“I’m still bullish about our progress as a team. We’ve just got to push on to get that consistency as a team.”
Consistency has been a key concern for Tottenham, as while the Lilywhites have recently beaten Aston Villa and Manchester City, they have lost four of their last eight matches in all competitions, and among those to have beaten them are Crystal Palace and Ipswich Town, both of whom were in the relegation zone before the respective fixtures.
Postecoglou seems to have doubts over some of his players, with rotation often occurring in the midfield positions, while there are obvious issues with the defence such as at set pieces.
Tottenham need to turn their performances into results
With eleven matches played and Tottenham only three points off the top four, their season is far from over, but supporters will imagine where Spurs would be if they had won the matches where they have played better than their opponents.
But Spurs have failed to be consistent, not always taking their chances and conceding a lot of cheap goals, often in similar ways. It is all well and good playing well, but if Spurs continue to lose matches at the rate they currently are, it would not be surprising if they have to spend another campaign in the Europa League next season.
