But before we go buying all new decorations to create a new, classy look, one expert has revealed that “beige Christmas” decor is no longer on trend.
In fact, people are getting more and more excited about “tacky” Christmas decor this holiday season.
Users on social media have been sharing their love for the nostalgic 2000’s festive vibe this year.
Festive fans on TikTok have been saying they can’t get enough of the style, with one user posting: “Tacky Christmas isn’t tacky and if tacky is wrong, I don’t want to be right”.
And now one interior designer has revealed the ways we can decorate our homes after noticing the huge shift in style preferences for the festive season.
Ola Jordan, interior design expert from EZ Living Furniture, has shared her tips on how we can change our decor in a way that’s reminiscent of the “tacky” 2000s Christmas whilst still keeping it tasteful and stylish.

She says: “There’s a whole host of fun, new and exciting Christmas trends for 2024 that actually already play on the idea of ‘tacky’ Christmas.
“From maximalist trees to supersized decorations and throwing it back to the disco era with pops of glitz, glamour, and bright colours – tacky is SO back.
“If you’re cringing a bit at the idea of having a tacky Christmas this year, just think that it’s basically already trending.
“People are just calling it different things.”
Red and gold, not beige and cold
One simple, classic, yet elegant way to bring tacky Christmas into your home is by decorating with red and gold baubles.
It is an easy and stylish way to pay homage to the 2000s Christmas vibe.
Ola says: “If you think back to your childhood Christmases, your memories will probably be a warm and fuzzy haze full of twinkling rainbow lights, mismatched baubles and vibrant colours and glitter.
“And red decorations can be used to bring this feeling back whilst still being on-trend.
“Opt for red baubles for your tree, complemented with glitzy gold accents to add some style and depth.”
Maximalism is in, minimalism is out
Gone are the days of sparse, understated Christmas decorations, the experts have revealed.
This year it’s all about the more, the merrier and layering our decor with lots of different textures, colours, and shapes.
They suggest: “Start with your tree as the focal point.
“Think oversized baubles, lush garlands, and ornaments that don’t necessarily ‘match’ but bring a sense of joyful chaos.
“Add glittering ribbons and vintage lights to create a bold, statement tree that’s a visual feast.
“Don’t forget to decorate other areas of the home too: we’re talking mantelpieces, doorways, windows, and even stair railings can all get the maximalist treatment!”

AN interior designer has insisted there are nine ways your Christmas decorations could make your home look cheap.
Paulina Wojas, interior designer at Stunning Chairs, reveals what to avoid and how you can create a tasteful, festive atmosphere at home instead.
- Mixed themes – Displaying Christmas decorations that don’t flow together can lead to a horrible appearance, making the home look cheap.
- Novelty Decorations – These also lack timelessness and therefore are a poor investment.
- Wrong-sized Christmas tree – A tree that’s too large or too small can disrupt the room’s aesthetic and make the space look cheap.
- Overdecorating – Following a less-is-more approach is key to achieving a beautiful home for Christmas.
- Lighting – While colourful lights in white, red, blue, or green may seem festive, they can often make your home look cheap.
- Low-Quality Faux Greenery – Artificial greenery that looks obviously fake or too shiny can cheapen your overall decor.
- Cluttered Christmas Tree – A tree overloaded with mismatched ornaments can look less elegant and more like a mismatched collection.
- Overusing Tinsel – An overabundance of it can give your decor an “outdated, kitschy feel” making your space look like a cheap shop display.
