Three Red Raiders ink Division I National Letters of Intent
MECHANICVILLE, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- Out at Mechanicville High School, three student-athletes signed their National Letters of Intent Thursday night to compete at the Division I level.
Soccer star Maddy Hopeck will stay home and attend Siena College; so too will Scotty Lynch for baseball. And Lynch's teammate, Chris Couser, is headed to Wagner College.
Lynch and Couser feel fortunate to be sharing the signing stage together before sharing the diamond one last time this spring.
"Seeing each other grow up and accomplishing our dreams together side-by-side," said Couser. "Let's hope more dreams get accomplished together. We're gonna try to win that section. We can up short two years in a row - lost in the semifinals both times. We gotta get past Shuttleworth (Park) and win that title. I know me and Scotty are gonna do everything in our power."
"It's a surreal feeling," added Lynch. "We worked our whole lives for [this]. Really is a dream come true. [There's] no better feeling."
And what a month it's been for Hopeck. Three weeks after guiding her team to its first section title, she's signing on to play at D-I program just miles from home.
"I love it so much, 'cause my family can watch; my sister just went there, so just the whole atmosphere there, I just love it so much," said Hopeck. "Coming off such a great season and finally signing for what I've always dreamed of since I was a little kid...it fits so close to my heart."
