Speaking to E! News, Luke said that Carrie has a hard time with turning contestants down.
“When she has to say ‘No’ she’s like, ‘I don’t wanna tell them no,’” he explained. “But it’s kind of a part [of the job]. It’s hard when you got a kid that’s young and they haven’t found who they are musically.”
The country music star added that she is learning on the fly and doing well. That was particularly the case with young contestants.
“You kind of have to learn how to be a judge. It’s not like you can go to American Idol judging school,” he joked, adding that she “has the best soul and heart.”
His final pronouncement on the matter? “She’s doing a great job and really settling into the judging table,” Luke said.
The new season of American Idol premiers on ABC on Sunday, March 9 at 8pm ET. Check out the network’s full premiere schedule!
