Macy's world-famous holiday window displays returns
NEW YORK CITY (PIX11) — A New York City holiday tradition came to life Thursday as Macy’s flagship store at Herald Square unveiled its world-famous holiday window displays, along with Santaland, bringing the magic of the season to life.
New Yorkers and tourists alike came out to see the dazzling displays.
This year the rainy weather put a damper on the evening, although not stopping visitors like Thomas Onolfo who makes his way to the windows every year.
“No other place to be like Christmas this time of the year,” Onolfo said. “Christmas in New York. Magical wonderland with all these lights.”
The windows, a beloved staple in the city since 1874, showcase whimsical and interactive scenes under this year’s theme ‘Give Love’. The display highlights the many ways we celebrate togetherness with friends and family during the holiday season.
“It’s really amazing just to stand back and watch people’s faces,” said Macy’s National Windows Director Manny Urquizo. “… the joy that the windows bring to their faces it’s just really special and heartwarming.”
While the rain fell outside, the magic of the season was alive inside with Santaland where the one and only Santa Claus returned to spread holiday joy to children of all ages. At a preview event of the holiday experience, families got to meet the Big Guy in person.
Lingga Suri came all the way from Indonesia to visit her daughter and to experience the holiday season in New York City.
“The windows are so cool,” Suri said. “So beautiful. I like it.”
The holiday windows will be on display from now through the beginning of the year. Santaland officially opens to the public next Friday.
