Amsterdam swears in new police chief
AMSTERDAM, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- The city of Amsterdam has a new police chief. Joseph Spencer was sworn in as chief Wednesday afternoon.
Spencer joined the police department in July 2010 and was promoted to detective in 2017. In 2020, he earned the rank of sergeant before ascending to lieutenant one year later.
Spencer is replacing John Thomas, who is retiring. Thomas served in the department for 26 years, spending the last four as chief.
