Ron DeSantis won't appoint Matt Gaetz to Marco Rubio's Senate seat: report
Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL) is not expected to appoint former Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL) to Sen. Marco Rubio's (R-FL) seat after he resigns to become President-elect Donald Trump's secretary of state.
Speculation mounted that Gaetz might be appointed to the Senate seat after he withdrew as Trump's attorney general nominee Thursday.
A source close to DeSantis was "adamant" that Gaetz was not on the list of possible candidates, telling The National Review: "He won't appoint Matt."
The publication said the decision was unsurprising "given the cloud of controversy that surrounds Gaetz."

Trump's daughter-in-law, Lara Trump, was considered a leading candidate for Rubio's seat. The National Review also named Florida Attorney General Ashley Moody, Lt. Gov. Jeanette Nuñez, and DeSantis' chief of staff, James Uthmeier, as possible picks.
