'He's not hell-bent on revenge': Lara Trump swats away any fears of political retribution
Donald Trump's daughter-in-law has a word of advice for critics of the president-elect: don't be afraid.
Carol Leonnig of The Washington Post spoke to Lara Trump, co-chair of the Republican National Committee who is married to Eric Trump, and noted Donald Trump is inheriting a politically divided country.
"Some considering your father-in-law a champion of theirs," said Leonnig. "Many others considering him an autocrat, a racist, and someone bent on vengeance. What do you believe the president-elect's plans are to help unify the nation and be a president for all Americans?"
Lara Trump replied: "Anyone who is afraid right now, you should not be afraid."
"There was a lot of talk and a lot of truly fearmongering I think that happened throughout the course of this campaign," she said. "And it really has been applied directly to Donald Trump."
Lara Trump called such attacks "unwarranted and unfair."
"What I think people are going to realize when Donald Trump takes office again for his second term is that he's not hell-bent on revenge or retribution of any variety," she said.
Lara Trump insisted her father-in-law is "not on a revenge tour."
"Anyone who is afraid of that, I hope you're already seeing that that's not the case," she said.
Trump will focus on making the country safer, ensuring people have more money in their pocket and making sure America avoids World War III via "peace through strength."

Despite Donald Trump's inflammatory campaign rhetoric, Lara Trump insisted she believes he'll be a "unifying person for this country."
"I kind of think you're already seeing some of the steps toward that direction right now," she said.
Lara Trump added: "You can mark it down now that I said it here, but he simply just wants the country to be successful and for our communities to be safe and to have a bright outlook for the future for our next generation."
Donald Trump has made numerous threats of retribution against his political opponents and perceived foes. He has threatened to investigate, prosecute, or imprison political figures including President Joe Biden and referred to some individuals as the "enemy from within."
During the campaign, Trump said if "radical left lunatics" disrupt the election, "it should be very easily handled by — if necessary, by National Guard, or if really necessary, by the military."
At a campaign rally, Trump said Vice President Kamala Harris "should be impeached and prosecuted." In another instance, he reposted on social media: "ELIZABETH LYNNE CHENEY IS GUILTY OF TREASON. RETRUTH IF YOU WANT TELEVISED MILITARY TRIBUNALS."
