Spurs starlet Archie Gray shines in interesting role for England U21s
Spurs starlet Archie Gray was utilised in an interesting role in Monday’s international fixture, and he passed the test with flying colours.
Tottenham man’s astounding versatility
Archie Gray has impressed a lot of Spurs fans with his versatility since his big-money move from Leeds United in the summer.
The teenager has already featured across the back four for Tottenham in the Europa League and Carabao Cup and has looked accomplished in each position.
For an 18-year-old to show such tactical maturity and understanding of the game suggests that Spurs may indeed have a special young player on their hands.
Archie Gray’s football education continues
Football.London reveal that Gray has been used in a couple of different positions for England‘s Under-21 side through the international break.
The report points out that the youngster played as a right-back in Friday’s 0-0 draw against Spain but he was asked to play as a right-sided centre-back in a back four in the Young Lions’ clash against Netherlands on Monday.
The outlet reveals that England played an interesting formation against the Dutch, with the back four becoming a back three in possession, Gray moving to the right of the back three and Samuel Iling-Junior dropping back into a left wing-back role.
The report says that the Tottenham man hardly put a foot wrong in the game, showing the kind of maturity we have seen from him in a Spurs shirt this season.
Can Archie Gray get a chance in Spurs midfield?
Rodrigo Bentancur‘s seven-game suspension might finally open the door for Archie Gray to be given a go in the number six role at Spurs, which was where he made his name for himself at Elland Road.
While the youngster has publicly maintained that he does not mind playing in any position, one would assume that he would be extremely keen to show Ange Postecoglou and the Spurs coaching staff what he can do in the middle of the park.
