Beavers add Hawken as Assistant Coach
Torree Hawken, a four-year Oregon State University athlete on the women’s rowing team has recently been named to the program’s coaching staff as announced by OSU athletics.
Hawken graduated from OSU in 2024. After joining the team as a walk-on in 2020, her freshman year, she earned the Beavers award for most improved novice athlete. By her senior year Hawken was a key contributor and raced the entire spring season in the varsity eight. She sat in the six seat at 2024 Pac-12 Championships in 2024 when the boat finished in fourth place.
“I’m excited to jump in with the athletes and staff to work as a catalyst for the development of the team in any way I can,” Hawken told OSU. “Utilizing my experience as an athlete will lead me as I gain new knowledge on the coaching side of things.”
Hawken rounds out a coaching staff of five, with head coach Michael Eichler at the helm. Eichler has been with the program since the 2017 season and was elevated to the head coach position after Kate Maxim resigned this summer. The Beavers varsity eight went on to place sixth at the Pac-12 Championships that spring. With Eichle help OSU claimed 14th at the 2022 NCAA Championships in a historic finish for the school.
“I am excited to announce the addition of Torree to our coaching staff. She was a key member of this program over the last four years and helped build this program as an athlete in every imaginable way,” Eichler said. “Her energy, enthusiasm and work ethic are top-tier and will fit perfectly with the staff. I look forward to working alongside her as she continues to build this program, now as a coach.”
So far this fall the Beavers had competed at three regattas: Head of the Spokane, at Head of the American (previewed here by Rowing News) and the Beavers own Black and Orange Regatta. With Hawken’s addition to the coaching staff the team now has their focus on the fast approaching spring season.
