Ex-Red Sox Infielder Reportedly Joins Enemy, Signs Deal With Yankees
Pablo Reyes spent the last few seasons suiting up for the Boston Red Sox.
Now, the veteran utility man has signed a minor league deal with the Red Sox’s biggest rival — the New York Yankees, according to New York Daily News’ Gary Phillips.
Reyes last played for the New York Mets, appearing in one game as a pinch-runner on Sept. 1, after the Red Sox traded the 31-year-old Dominican Republic native for cash considerations.
In 22 MLB games last season with the Red Sox and Mets, Reyes hit .183 with zero home runs, five RBIs and one stolen base. In 68 Triple-A games between the two clubs, he hit .300 with 12 home runs, 42 RBI, 15 stolen bases and a .889 OPS.
Since making his MLB debut with the Pittsburgh Pirates in 2018, Reyes has hit .248 with eight home runs, 54 RBI, 72 runs and 13 stolen bases.
With 233 major league games under his belt, Reyes could see playing time at the big league level with the Yankees next season, especially with first baseman Anthony Rizzo and second baseman Gleyber Torres entering free agency after the World Series.
