NYC hiring for six-figure cyber jobs: how to apply
NEW YORK (PIX11) -- New York City's cyber team is working 24/7 to protect against cyberattacks.
Kelly Moan is the chief information security officer at the New York City Office of Technology and Innovation. Moan is in charge of making sure New York City's information is safe. She said the city receives 90 billion suspicious cyber threats a week.
Moan leads a team of over 100 savvy cyber experts, keeping 8.3 million New Yorkers safe. It all happens at New York City's Cyber Command in Downtown Brooklyn.
From our water supply, to our hospitals, to even our crosswalks, Moan's team is hard at work.
Moan became New York City's cyber chief in 2022. She’s the first woman to lead the agency, going from protecting the NYPD’s information to all of New York City's agencies.
Moan said there is a lot she can't tell about her job, but she does say it's the best job in the city.
New York City is currently hiring for cybersecurity jobs, including some positions that pay six-figure salaries.
"Entry-level, mid-career, to senior career, cybersecurity is hiring," Moan said. "From a security analyst role who is monitoring systems for cyberattacks, to someone who is managing vulnerability, so weaknesses in systems and trying to fix them, and really everything in between."
Moan said you don’t have to have a computer science degree to get into the field. She studied international relations in college.
