Tottenham could sign German or Danish defender in January
Tottenham Hotspur see a Serie A defender and an experienced Bundesliga centre-back as their top targets, but both players have very different profiles.
Tottenham want defensive reinforcements
Tottenham are thought to be on the lookout for defensive reinforcements in January and GiveMeSport now claim that the club are still deliberating on what profile they want to sign.
The report explains that the Lilywhites want to either sign a specialist left-back or a versatile centre-back who can cover multiple positions.
Both profiles are allegedly being explored by Ange Postecoglou‘s men, who are assessing their options ahead of the January window.
Spurs identify Jonathan Tah and Patrick Dorgu
The outlet says that one of ‘the standout names’ on Tottenham‘s wishlist is Bayer Leverkusen’s Jonathan Tah, with Spurs’ interest in the centre-back described as ‘genuine’.
With the German international’s current deal set to run out next summer, Leverkusen could be open to a cut-price sale in January.
However, Tottenham are thought to be facing competition from the likes of Real Madrid, Bayern Munich, and Barcelona for the experienced defender.
The other player that Spurs are considering is Lecce left-back Patrick Dorgu, who is seen as someone who could serve as Destiny Udogie’s understudy.
The publication asserts that the Denmark international has been on Tottenham’s radar for a long time.
Who should Spurs sign?
Most Spurs fans will agree that Ben Davies is better suited to the centre-back role in Postecoglou’s system than the inverted left-back role.
That is why it would make more sense for Spurs to sign Dorgu to serve as Udogie’s backup and perhaps use Djed Spence as Pedro Porro’s understudy at right-back. That would also free up Archie Gray to play in the midfield, which many feel is the 18-year-old’s best position.
