Even Arne Slot fails to match impressive Ange Postecoglou record
An interesting stat which shows how many points Ange Postecoglou had in comparison to Arne Slot after 10 Premier League games offers some perspective.
Ange Postecoglou started like a house on fire
Expectations were low when Postecoglou first walked through the doors of Hotspur Way as Spurs were just coming off an eighth-place finish while their record scorer, Harry Kane, had departed.
However, despite this, the Lilywhites started the season like a house on fire, dominating their opponents and playing teams off the park.
Some Spurs fans were even dreaming of a potential title tilt at the time and the Australian was seen as a revolutionary figure, getting the kind of plaudits that Arne Slot is now getting at Liverpool.
However, the wheels came off for Tottenham after they picked up a few big injuries in November, and they struggled for consistency from that point, eventually being pipped to fourth place by Aston Villa.
How Postecoglou’s start compares to Slot
One look at social media shows that some Spurs fans are already questioning whether Postecoglou is the right man for the job. However, while Liverpool are absolutely flying under Slot, the Dutchman still has not outdone the start that Postecoglou made at Spurs last season.
Spurs had 26 points after their first 10 Premier League games last season, which is a record for any new manager in the competition.
Slot just fell short of the 59-year-old’s record, with the Reds accumulating 25 points after their first 10 league matches this season.
Stat shows why it is too early to jump to conclusions
Spurs fans who were expecting us to win the league title after the first 10 games last season are just as wrong as those who expect us to finish mid-table this season after a similar number of matches.
We are just over a quarter of the way into the campaign and sit just three points off third place.
It is not time to press the panic button just yet and there is no reason to think we will not be in and around the top four places by the end of the season.
