Cleanup is continuing at the Elijah Missionary Baptist Church following last week's fire. Also, the Chief Financial Officer of the Ronald McDonald House Charities of the Capital Region has been fired. These stories, and more, are in your five things to know this Tuesday.
1. Clean up continues at charred Albany church
As the sun shone over the steeple of Elijah Missionary Baptist Church on Monday, its brown brick facade seemed untouched. From the rear, however, the devastation — courtesy of an all-consuming fire — remained evident. From collapsed brick reminiscent of a war zone, to exposed support beams, and broken stained glass windows, the burned-out shell of a building still holds importance for the community.
2. Chief financial officer of local Ronald McDonald House fired
The chief financial officer of the Ronald McDonald House Charities of the Capital Region has been fired.
3. WATCH: Another truck hits Glenville bridge
An oversized vehicle hit the Glenridge Road bridge last week. A car following behind the truck caught the truck striking the bridge as the truck drove past road signs warning of the bridge’s low height.
4. Law allowing craft distilleries to ship products now in effect
New York’s craft cideries and distilleries are now able to ship their products directly to New Yorkers and consumers in other states with similar alcohol laws. The state’s direct to consumer law is now in effect.
5. Regional Food Bank hosts drive thru food distribution
The Regional Food Bank of Northeastern New York hosted its monthly drive-thru food distribution event in Lansingburgh on Monday. The distribution served more than 250 people.
