Phnom Penh celebrates Water Festival
PHNOM PENH – Phnom Penh hosted the grand finale of the Water Festival on Saturday, November 16, drawing massive crowds despite the heat. Spectators enjoyed boat races, fireworks, and festivities at the Royal Palace.
Known as Bon Om Touk, this centuries-old festival (November 14-16) celebrates the end of the monsoon season and the changing flow of the Tonle Sap and Mekong rivers.
The King and Prime Minister presided over the three-day event, which featured boat races, concerts, and a lantern boat display. Security was tight, with 16,000 police officers deployed throughout the city.
