Elephants Deli truck stolen, worker jumps off; 1 arrested
PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) -- A man is facing multiple charges for allegedly stealing a delivery truck from a Milwaukie warehouse with an employee still inside, leading to a police chase early Friday morning.
Just after 4 a.m., police say warehouse employees were loading an Elephants Delicatessen delivery truck when a man got into the cab of the truck and drove away with one employee still inside the cargo portion.
Authorities said the employee then jumped off the truck as it was leaving the parking lot.
Around 12:15 p.m., Elephants employees tracked the stolen truck by air tag to a parking lot in Beaverton near Southwest Walker Road and Cedar Hills Boulevard and called police.
When officers responded to the scene, they found the suspect still inside the truck. After being stopped, officials say suspect rammed into one of the police cars and fled the area in the stolen truck.
After driving into heavy traffic, police say the man left the truck behind and ran off through various parking lots and residential yards before being taken into custody.
The man, identified as 29-year-old Forrest Guayante, was charged with unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, reckless endangering, attempt to elude - felony, hit and run, and unlawful possession of methamphetamine.
