‘Gutted’ Chris Weidman reacts to UFC 309 fight cancellation
Chris Weidman missed out on an opportunity to fight in his home state and he’s still reeling.
At the start of the UFC 309 broadcast from Madison Square Garden in New York, it was announced that Weidman’s middleweight bout against Eryk Anders had been cancelled due to a medical issue on Anders’ side.
Weidman later reacted to the news with a video on social media, adding a caption that reads, “Completely devastated.”
Watch the former UFC champion discuss the news below.
“I am super bummed out,” Weidman said in the video. “I felt so good for this fight. I was so ready. My head is spinning right now that this is happening. I was about to walk to the arena. Just said the prayers with my family, just felt so good and so excited to put on a show at Madison Square Garden. I am so gutted.
“I just want to wish Anders—I hope he feels better, gets better soon.”
Weidman was set to compete for the third time since breaking his leg in an April 2021 bout with Uriah Hall at UFC 261. He lost his comeback fight to Brad Tavares, but defeated Bruno Silva via technical decision this past March to get back in the win column.
