Collazo stops Knockout to unify Minimumweight straps!
After years at the top we probably just saw the end of Knockout CP Freshmart (25-1, 9) [AKA Thammanoon Niyomtrong] as the long reigning WBA Minimumweight champion was stopped by WBO champion Oscar Collazo (11-0, 8), who became the first unified champion at 105lbs in almost a decade.
Collazo, the much younger, fresh fighter, looked the quicker sharper man from the opening round as Knockout, now 35, looked to try and lure the unbeaten Puerto Rican into his fight. As the rounds went on however Collazo warmed to the task.
The fight started slowly, and whilst Collazo was winning the fight after 3 rounds it lacked drama and excitement. Collazo was out landing Knockout, who seemed to be trying to land sneaky counters and not fire off too many shots. From round 4 however the fight began to change, with both men beginning to open up more. The round saw both men land some of their best shots, and we again so thrilling action in round 5, when Knockout landed his best shot of the fight. Sadly however it was the start of the end for him as Collazo took his best shots, shrugged them off and began to walk down the Thai, dropping him with a right hand in round 6 and Knockout began to look 35.
In round 7 Collazo would drop Knockout twice more as he really began to beat up the Thai veteran, with the referee knowing enough was enough and waving a halt to the action after the third knockdown of the fight, giving Collazo his biggest win to date, and leaving him as the clear #1 at 105lbs.
