Who's in, who's out for Texas, Arkansas ahead of SEC matchup in Fayetteville
AUSTIN (KXAN) — Texas defensive end Colton Vasek is out for the second consecutive week and linebacker Mo Blackwell is also unavailable due to injury for the Longhorns in Saturday's game against Arkansas in Fayetteville.
For Arkansas, defensive backs Selman Bridges, Jaylon Braxton and Anthony Switzer — along with kicker Kyle Ramsey and defensive lineman Anton Juncaj — are all out.
The Longhorns moved up to No. 3 in the latest College Football Playoff selection committee rankings but will have their hands full against a feisty Razorbacks squad led by quarterback Taylen Green.
When the Hogs' offense is humming, it's tough to stop. They are No. 5 in total offense among FBS teams, averaging 483.6 yards per game, but the Texas defense knows how to limit opposing offenses. The Longhorns are No. 2 in total defense, allowing 251 yards per contest. Texas also has the best pass defense in FBS in terms of average yards allowed, holding teams to 135.3 per game. The Razorbacks gain an average of 292.3 yards per game through the air, 11th in FBS.
The matchup rekindles a long-standing rivalry between the two programs that dates back to 1894 when they first played. From 1916 to 1991, the schools battled in the Southwest Conference and played what many refer to as the "Game of the Century" in 1969. Texas trailed Arkansas 14-0 in Fayetteville, but the Darrell K Royal-coached squad mounted a comeback and stole one from the Hogs 15-14.
The teams last met in 2021 in Fayetteville with the Razorbacks thumping the Longhorns 40-21 in Steve Sarkisian's first year as the Texas head coach.
Kickoff is scheduled for 11 a.m. CT on ABC with Joe Tessitore and Jesse Palmer on the call.
