Pinay5 ASEAN Futsal debut ends in stalemate vs Myanmar
MANILA, Philippines – The Philippines opened its ASEAN Women’s Futsal Championship campaign with a 2-2 draw against Myanmar on Saturday night, November 16, at the PhilSports Arena in Pasig City.
Nicknamed the Pinay5, the Philippines saw Agot Danton salvaging the mach with an equalizer in the second half as the host wound up sharing a point with Myanmar in the standings.
The Pinay5 started the game with a goal courtesy of team captain Isabella Bandola, before conceding two straight conversions from Lwin Lwin Thet with 16:40 left in the match, and Yu Mi Mi Lwin off a penalty kick at the 8:11 mark.
After a quick turnaround, Danton unleashed the game-tying goal following a rebound with a little over 7 minutes left in the game.
Earlier in the day, Thailand defeated Indonesia, 1-0, to take the top spot after the first day of the five-country tournament.
The tournament features a single round-robin format with the top two advancing to the final round on Thursday, November 21.
Vietnam rounds out the cast in the inaugural tournament also serving as a dry-run for the Philippines’ hosting of the FIFA Women’s Futsal World Cup next year.
Weather-permitting, the Filipinos will next face Thailand on Sunday, November 17, at 7 pm at the same venue. – Rappler.com
