Pakistan establishes robust system to secure border with Afghanistan
Pakistan’s army chief has announced the establishment of a “strong border management system” to protect the country’s borders with Afghanistan from terrorist groups.
General Asim Munir, speaking at a session on Friday, urged the Taliban to take action against groups using Afghanistan soil to launch attacks on Pakistan.
General Munir addressed the “Margalla Dialogue 2024” conference in Islamabad on Friday, November 15, where he discussed Pakistan’s role in promoting peace and stability in the region.
In his speech, he stated, “Terrorism is a shared challenge for humanity on a global level, and Pakistan is firmly committed to combating it.” This commitment underscores Pakistan’s efforts to address the rising threat of militant groups.
He further elaborated that Pakistan has implemented a robust border management system to counteract groups it described as “Khwarij mischief-makers” and gathering points for terrorist organizations and proxies worldwide.
Five months ago, Pakistan officially labeled Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) as “Khwarij” and instructed government entities to use this term when referring to the perpetrators of terrorist attacks within the country.
General Munir also emphasized, “Pakistan expects Afghanistan’s interim government to prevent the use of Afghan soil for terrorist activities and to take decisive action in this regard.” This expectation reflects ongoing tensions between the two neighbors.
Recent months have seen a sharp escalation in attacks targeting Pakistan’s security forces, particularly in the provinces of Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Groups like the TTP and Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA) have intensified their activities, leading to heightened insecurity in these regions.
The rise in militant attacks has not only endangered Pakistani security personnel but has also targeted foreign nationals, including Chinese workers, undermining significant infrastructure projects like the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).
Such incidents have strained relations between Pakistan and its allies, raising concerns about the safety of foreign investments.
This wave of militancy poses a serious challenge to Pakistan’s internal security and economic stability. Addressing these threats requires coordinated efforts, both domestically and with neighboring Afghanistan, to dismantle terrorist networks and secure vital projects essential for regional development.
