‘Allegations can be tossed around like lollipops’: Ex-Trump attorney defends AG pick
Donald Trump’s former personal attorney Joe Tacopina isn’t concerned about his former client’s choice to be the country’s next attorney general.
In a CNN interview Friday, Tacopina launched into a fierce defense of President-elect Donald Trump’s decision to tap former Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL), telling host Jake Tapper that investigations don’t mean anything to him because Gaetz was ultimately never charged with anything.
“People can be under investigation, allegations can be thrown around, especially in this day and age, allegations seem to be tossed around like lollipops,” Tacopina said. “I think you have to be measured before you cast judgment on someone, and, you know, Matt Gaetz is someone the president is relying on."

The remarks came after Tapper mentioned that Gaetz has been “mired for years” in investigations by the Justice Department and House Ethics Committee before asking his views on whether Gaetz is the most qualified and appropriate person to lead the Justice Department.
“That's a very personal decision that the president-elect will be making and has made,” Tacopina said, adding he wouldn’t criticize the selection because his dealings with Gaetz, have “been more than positive.” He noted that Gaetz can be “bombastic” and somebody “who speaks his mind.”
“But I think that's consistent with the personality of the president-elect right,” he said.
Tacopina concluded by saying that things will be “just fine” if the Trump loyalist passes Senate confirmation.
“He’s going to have some very seasoned prosecutors around him,” he told Tapper.
