Eunice native Sean Ardoin has 4th Grammy-nominated album
LOS ANGELES (KLFY) -- For zydeco artist Sean Ardoin, having an album nominated for a Grammy award is becoming old hat.
His latest effort, "25: Back to My Roots," is one of five nominees for the 2025 Grammy in the Best Regional Roots Music Album category.
"It’s an honor to be recognized by my peers in the Recording Academy," Ardoin said, in a news release. "This album is a reflection of my journey, my heritage, and the creative evolution of my sound. To see that it resonates with so many people is deeply humbling."
Released earlier this year on Zydekool Records, the album celebrates Ardoin’s 25th anniversary as a solo artist. This also marks his fifth career Grammy nomination. Produced, written, and performed by Ardoin and his band, "25: Back To My Roots" blends his signature Kreole Rock and Soul style with the rich cultural influences of Louisiana's Zydeco and Creole traditions.
Since launching his solo career in 1999, Ardoin has released 27 albums and earned four previous Grammy nominations. His fusion of Zydeco with rock, soul and R&B has garnered him an international following.
Previously, Ardoin had albums "Kreole Rock and Soul" nominated in 2019, "Live in New Orleans!" in 2022 and "Full Circle" in 2023. His song "Kick Rocks" was also nominated for Best American Roots Performance in 2019.
Ardoin was born in Eunice, and is a descendant of Amédé Ardoin, referred to as the Father of Zydeco by music scholars for laying the groundwork for Creole music in the early 20th century. Ardoin is also the descendant of noted creole musician Alphonse "Bois Sec" Ardoin and creole musician, Lawrence "Black" Ardoin. He is the older brother of hip-hop zydeco accordionist Chris Ardoin.
The 67th annual Grammy Awards ceremony will take place Feb. 2, 2025 in Los Angeles.
